The Exposure

In June 2001 two investigators of the Prosecutor’s Office, members of the criminal investigation group concerning the abduction of operator of ORT Dmitry Zavadsky shared with journalists the information, which had been revealed during the investigation process of the case.

Sluchek and Petrushkevich claimed that the abduction of Zavadsky as well as of businessman Anatolij Krasovskij, the former chef of MVD Jury Zacharenko and the leader of the opposition Viktor Honchar had been carried out by a group under the direction of major of special troops’ Dmitry Pavlichenko (at present colonel Pavlichenko commands military unit 3214). By their information as early as in 1997 he became a head of special subdivision for peculiar missions – with the alleged purpose to eliminate physically criminal leaders. According to Petrushkevich and Sluchek, the scheme that had been practiced with criminals later on was realized to eliminate Lukashenko’s political opponents.

“All in all, the group carried out more than 30 murders, - is said in the letter. – All the orders for conducting the operation were given to Pavlichenko directly by Sivakov (a former Minister of Internal Affairs). Sivakov received those instructions from Shejman. After Sivakov’s resignation the group was taken under complete control of new Minister of Internal Affairs Naumov.”
Sluchek and Petrushkevich also assert that the investigation group has almost ascertained the place where the body of Dmitry Zavadsky was buried. In order to confirm the information General Prosecutor Oleh Bozhelko sent a letter of inquiry to General Prosecutor of Russia Vladimir Ustinov where made a request for special equipment to search the dead bodies in the ground, and the specialists to work with it, as there were no such an equipment in Belarus. But in five days by the order of the head of Belarusian state General Public Prosecutor, Minister of Culture and the Head of KGB were dismissed. And Ustinov was sent a new letter, where it was confirmed that there was no need to search corpses in the ground. Thus, Dmitry Petrushkevich and Oleh Sluchek drew a conclusion that acting in that way Alexander Lucashenko made it clear: he did not wish the dead body of Zavadsky would be discovered.

In autumn of 2001 Dmitry Pavlichenko was detained by members of special subdivision “Alfa” and placed to a KGB cell, where he was inquired several times. Nevertheless Pavlichenko was taken to the President’s meeting with heads of the Department of Forces. The major of special troops pronounced only one phrase: “I fulfilled all your orders”. Just after the meeting he was released by order of the head of the state. Next day Lukashenko signed a pack of decrees for resignation of the heads of the Department of Forces. The material evidence of Pavlichenko’s involvement in the disappearance of people was kept in the private safe of former head of KGB of Belarus Vladimir Matskevich, who was not even given a permission to enter his office after the meeting with the president…

Matskevich as well as Bozhelko did not say a word any more about sound abductions.

Former chef of KGB now successfully work as an ambassador in one of the countries.
